International coordination from one local team

What international repatriation involves

The process is more than booking a flight. It normally includes release into our care, preparation, specialist documentation, a flight-approved coffin or container, consular requirements, airline cargo arrangements and handover at the destination.

Requirements vary by destination and can also depend on citizenship, the circumstances of death and the receiving funeral home. We confirm the route before promising a timetable.

One named Serenity team member coordinates the Spanish documents and keeps the authorised family contact and receiving funeral director informed.

The repatriation process

The repatriation process

1

Confirm destination and authority

We obtain identity, next-of-kin, passport and receiving-funeral-home details and establish who may instruct us.

2

Prepare the Spanish documents

We coordinate civil registration, health permits and any consular or destination-specific requirements.

3

Prepare and book transport

The deceased is prepared for international travel, the approved coffin is sealed and the flight route is booked.

4

Handover at destination

We exchange documents and timing information with the receiving funeral director so they can continue the arrangements.

One named team

You do not have to coordinate every organisation yourself

Serenity records the authorised instructions, keeps the arrangement moving and tells the family what is needed next. Urgent care comes first; optional decisions can be considered once the immediate position is secure.

Timing is case-specific

A straightforward case can move more quickly than one involving a post-mortem, judicial release, weekend closure, consular legalisation or limited cargo space. We give a realistic case-specific update rather than an unreliable promise.

Cremation in Spain and travelling with ashes

Some families choose cremation in Spain instead of transporting the deceased. Travelling with ashes is a different process and may be simpler, but airlines and the destination can still require documents. We explain both options without assuming which is right for your family.
